Based Asenshi.
Thank you. I was nearly dead waiting
Thank you based Asenshi. If I may ask, how long does it take to learn japanese?
100 years.
My mother is a multilingual translator it only took her 4 years to learn it, i don’t know what you’re talking about sir
it’s jok
To learn enough Japanese vocabulary to get by as a tourist, a couple of weeks. (Asking / understanding directions to sites, ordering in a cafe etc) Learning the written form of their language takes much longer. Although you can cram enough to pass the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test – a grade six level language test) into a couple thousand hours of intense study, learning the written form of their language at a more realistic pace can take several years.
To read even pre-school “nursery rhyme” level books by yourself requires learning at least one of the two phonetic kana sylabaries, “Hiragana” and “Katakana” (now 48 characters each) Some documents refer to them, as the “basic hundred”, because before World War 2, these sylabaries had fifty characters each. In Japanese schools, these kana and fifty kanji are taught in grade one, and roughly two hundred kanji a year in each subsequent grade.
I’m an idiot. What does based mean?
thank you and more power
More BS11, yay~ (?)

holy shit. What a beautiful twist. Thanks so much Asenshi >.<
Thanks for everything!
I see the earliest comments here were from 5 AM! Damn, now I KNOW it was a good decision to just sleep and wait until this evening to watch it! I am NOT staying up until 6 AM on the first day of a work day!
The 5AM comments translate to around 10 PM Pacific daylight time (on North America’s West coast). It appears to be a timezone thing, timestamping the comments in the Greenwich time zone regardless of where in the world they were posted from.
Holy shit I don’t know if my heart is ready for this! Such unexpected betrayal! Akko! Pretty fantastic stuff.
LOL when time is rlimited it can be hard to get the rlittle things rlight.
Seems like you forgot to translate football
@OWO, a QC item like your “forgot to translate…” statement is much more helpful if you can also provide a timecode as to approximately when the error occurs within the episode. Otherwise, trying to repair the error is like searching for a needle in a haystack.. (more precisely, in the case of this episode, searching for a single subtitle line out of 517)
It’s a soccer joke.
^That, just a joke
While it’s true that much of the non-North America world calls the game we know as soccer, “football”, I was merely pointing out that if one wants to post a QC item, providing a timestamp along with a description of the error helps the editor find / correct the problem for future releases.
SPOILERS: So, if Diana’s magic was absorbed, but she managed to turn things around by working hard, can’t Akko do the same?
SPOILERS: Akko could also recover by working hard, but because in this series’s setting, magic lacks energy to function away from the sorcerer’s stones, she wouldn’t have noticed the problem as rapidly as Dianna did. Dianna has had ten years head start at fighting to recover from being “drained”. Although it might help speed Akko’s recovery by asking Dianna’s advice on the most efficient method / exercises to strengthen her abilities, the “light” that Akko caught after the performance shown in episode 1 might have been a bit of unused magical energy, jump-starting her recovery.
The magic was inside her all along.
SPOILERS: True, but Dianna, who had also attended Chariot’s performance of ten years ago, (1 row behind, and two chairs to Akko’s left) was also drained of the ability to cast spells. At the time, her family and household staff were worried that the loss was permanent. In this series, Magic requires both ability and a source of energy (usually a sorcerer’s stone) to become reality. To gain the energy for her performance away from a sorcerer’s stone or an active connection to one through a leyline, Chariot had “stolen” energy from her audience at that event ten years ago.
“A believing heart is your magic” now sounds far more sinister . . . maniacal Ursula laugh, anyone?
8:33 – “…their’s.”
THEIR’S???
Noted for BDs.
Comment to request for transcript at IRC, I haven’t been able to post there for some freakin reason:
Those would also be helpful. Are you sure you don’t have your own subs somewhere in plaintext, before you compiled them into the videos? Thanks 🙂
You can acquire any subtitle files (filetype .ass) from AnimeTosho. Just download the attached files and not the whole thing.
Another way, if you already have the mkv release file is, in the freeware subtitle editor “Aegisub”, “load subtitles”, pointing the source at the mkv file. Aegisub will then parse and extract the embedded subtitle file from the release.
I loved this episode. There’s some serious poetry in Ursula losing her flight to save Akko. There’s context we have yet to know that would explain if not justify her actions. Anydangway….
“Anger, hatred, sadness, jealousy, fear, anxiety”
The monster inc movie taught me that you will get more energy from laughter, happiness, and excitement.
Thanks! Now how about the original japanese subs? ^u^
The Japanese closed caption subs are a little more difficult for us outsiders to obtain. The cappers that supply the various raw groups toss that closed caption data out the window when they encode from their captured multi-gigabyte HD TS files.
How am I supposed to read the ass files? (heh) Not all match up with the subs, it seems like there’s “comments” not to mention formatting data. Is there a program you recommend?
The comments about what’s lost in translation are absolutely fascinating.
Holy shit. From reading the ep 1 sub file I was reminded of a line in episode 1 I never understood. “And then there was that moon…” FORESHADOWING?!!?!?
Raw groups, eh? Sounds like an interesting racket. I wonder who posts the raw files first. I’d guess the italicized subs were in katakana in the CC and the regular in Hiragana. Anyway, they mentioned having the Japanese subs on the IRC page, so I thought they still had them….
Back when Nyaa was still up, Ohaus raws was generally among the first to post LWA raws in torrent form, followed by Commie and then Leopard. Although resolution and quality differ between their offerings, all appear to have been working from a common 1080p master file because subtitle timing doesn’t get messed up where the feed had inserted commercials. (the few TS files I’ve managed to find also include toy commercials related to objects in the anime)
Thanks 🙂
Love that “quixotic idealism” line ;*)
