The drink Momo has later on is おしるコーラ (oshirukoora), which is a portmanteau of oshiruko (sweet red-bean soup) and cola. Gross.

I completely agree, they really should leave it as mekakushi dan and maybe just explain it at the top of the screen the first time.
So yeah, please asenshi leave it as mekakushi dan and mekameka dan.

The only Japanese-ness I’ll be keeping in this show as the editor is the honorifics. “Mekakushi/MekaMeka Dan” is nothing more than an untranslated term left in by the weebs that everyone now seems too afraid to translate. Give me solid evidence to prove that the intention of the original artists was otherwise, and I’ll “untranslate” it.

Then at least use the original translation; “Blindfold Gang”. Much more straightforward less childish-sounding than “Gaze-Hiding Gang”.

(メカクシティアクターズ Mekakushiti Akutāzu, lit. “Blindfold-city Actors”) (“Mekakucity” being a portmanteau of “mekakushi” (“blindfold”) and “city”)

And if you make the argument that need “Gaze-Hiding” for “GazeGaze”, remember that translating Japanese is supposed to be an open-ended and playful endeavour. Just keep “GazeGaze” if you’re so inclined to do so, since it is the best way interpret “MekaMeka”, but please use “Blindfold Gang”.

Do any of the characters at any point use a blindfold in the English meaning of the word? I’m not familiar with the series, so I’m seriously asking because you seem to have more knowledge about it than I. If none of them do, then there is no reason to use the word blindfold. 目隠し != blindfold.
